My Proxy server is v8.5.2 and if I use the apk from the server I can't login (and it did something weird like opening the Market after I tried to login). I download the app from the Market (v8.5.2.1) and that works fine with my 8.5.2 server.

Make sure you use the format serverhostname:port for the server address (http or https should be detected automatically).

I then disabled automatic updates in settings so I'm not notified to update to the older version on the server that doesn't work.
